Projects

Here are some development projects I’m working on currently.

OpenSocket

OpenSocket is a Facebook application that allows Google OpenSocial gadgets to be hosted within Facebook. Google’s standard rivals Facebook’s innovative third-party application Platform, but leaves two incompatible standards for developers to contend with. The OpenSocket project attempts to bridge that gap.

OpenSocket Front PageYou can read about the political motivation and thinking behind this project in the articles I have written for All Facebook, linked from my Articles page.

OpenSocket has its own web site.

Or visit the Facebook app.

I presented a seminar on OpenSocket to a gathering at Google HQ in November. Video not yet available.

Feed Friend RSS

Feed Friend RSS integrates a user’s personal blogs into their Facebook experience. Provided a blog makes an RSS or Atom feed available, Feed Friend will display posts on a user’s Facebook profile. Their friends can view posts entirely within Facebook, or through links to the original blog site.

New posts can be announced in the author’s News Feed. Supports an unlimited number of blogs, and of course the feeds do not have to be written by the user - it can be used to bring any blog to one’s Facebook friends.

Magic Maycabs 2

Back in 1994, I wrote a game called Magic Maycabs, based on a popular BBC micro game. I released it as shareware, with the option to upgrade to version two which had extra levels and a level editor.

Magic Maycabs screenshotThe game won’t run on a modern PC (since Windows 95, I think), so had been forgotten about. Recently, someone tracked me down and pointed out they were distributing the game along with links to a new old-PC emulator called DOSBox that allows the game to function on a new PC! Excited by this revival, I have released the full version 2 for free!

You can download from the DOS Museum (also shows a YouTube video of the game) or Bunny Abandonware (which has a nice write-up and screenshots).
